Sentinel is a simple optical device inspired by the camera obscura that, since 1880, has drawn many visitors to Aberystwyth, Wales. This in-situ sculpture, with its large convex mirror, offers a new point of view of the town’s spectacular seascape. It was created in the spring of 2009 at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre as part of the Québec/Cymru artist and studio-residency exchange program, and was installed by the footpath leading up to the camera obscura on top of Constitution Hill.

Wedi’i ysbrydoli gan olygfeydd ysblennydd Aberystwyth dros y môr a’r siambr dywyll (Camera Obscura), a adeiladwyd yn wreiddiol ym 1880 cyn i ffotograffiaeth gael ei dyfeisio, dyfais weledol yw’r cerflun hwn sy’n cynnig golwg arall ar y morlun. Crëwyd y cerflun hwn yng Nghanolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth yn rhan o raglen gyfnewid artistiaid a phreswyliadau stiwdio Québec/Cymru, gan gael ei osod yma â chydweithrediad hael Craig Glais.
