Inspired
by 16th-century philosopher Thomas More, who created his ideal society
of Utopia on an island never laid down in any atlas, I created an image
of my own utopian island. Walking along the 20-kilometre tow-path that
runs the length of the Chambly Canal between the cities of Chambly and
Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, I hauled my island like a child pulls a favourite
toy. The exhibition in the Action Art Actuel gallery was the fruit of
my journey through this maritime landscape, a journey between my island,
Thomas More's utopian model, and the contemporary reality of man-made
islands which surpasses fiction. (Français)
